Care, Resistance ... Joy! Workshop series exploring care, community and radical joy.
Care, Resistance... Joy! is a public project exploring collective joy as a radical practice for constructing better ways of living and working together. A response to collective grief and crisis, the project aims to provide a space for respite, reflection, and community; informed by Queer-Ecology and Decolonial thought, as well as legacies of collective action.
CONTRIBUTION
The programme considers structures of care, power, and community whilst centring joyful acts of resistance through creative practices and methods of living well. Eco-speculation is a form of narrative creation that can be used through art as a tool to think about desirable futures. Through speculation we can imagine hybrid bodies between humans and animals, or impossible landscapes that expand an ecological imagination. These narratives try to move us away from normative structures in order to imagine other worlds and other ways of relating to each other, of coexisting.
How can we feel collective joy on an individual level? When we think of the word collective we should also include all of those beings that participate in the health of our shared ecosystem, from microorganisms to the atmosphere. Through embodied performativity the workshop was an invitation to inhabit other potential modes of collectivity as a way to activate a less human centered speculative practice.
How can we find joy and unity in the process of creating desirable futures?
